SAGE prepared dust control and hazardous materials identification and handling plans for the construction of the Airport and West Valley light rail lines, Sugar House Streetcar line and FrontRunner commuter rail line. The fugitive dust plans identified activities likely to generate dust, control methods and monitoring procedures. We also provided dust monitoring under the plans. The hazardous materials plans identified known contaminated sites within the project corridors, supplied criteria for identifying contaminated soil and groundwater, and defined response and management protocols. SAGE’s follow up services included numerous rapid-response evaluations of contaminated soil and groundwater, which involved sampling and characterizing the material for worker health and safety considerations as well as for appropriate disposal.

The Murray Smelter Superfund site has been characterized, remediated, and redeveloped with ongoing management provided by Murray City and the EPA. During construction of the FrontRunner commuter rail line within the Murray Smelter Site Overlay District (SSOD), SAGE prepared the sections of CRC’s SSOD development permit that involved the handling of lead and arsenic contaminated soil. We worked closely with the Murray City site manager during the planning process as well as on-site during permitted activities to ensure compliance with the permit.
